In August 2016, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Nairobi in the Republic of Kenya and attended the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI). TICAD was launched in 1993 to promote high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners. TICAD VI was the first TICAD held on African soil.
