Message of Condolence by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe following the Terror Attack in Indonesia

Following the terror attack that occurred in Jakarta, Indonesia, on January 14 , which caused a number of casualties, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent the following message to H.E. Ir. H. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia.
“I am deeply shocked and outraged to hear that the terror attack that occurred in Jakarta on January 14 caused a number of casualties. Such terrorism could never be justified by any reason, and I strongly condemn such terrorist acts. Here, as the representative of the Japanese Government and people, I express solidarity to the Indonesian Government and people. Furthermore, I also express my deepest condolences to the families of all the victims, and express my heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured in the attack. In this time of difficulties, I stand with Your Excellency and the people of Indonesia.”

Signing of Japanese ODA Loan Agreement with India: Support to enhance the living environment in Pune and adjoining areas through the construction of a sewerage system
On January 13, 2016, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an ODA loan agreement with the Government of India to provide a Japanese official development assistance (ODA) loan of up to 19.064 Billion Yen for the Project for Pollution Abatement of River Mula-Mutha in Pune.
Pune has been growing as a centre of education, engineering industry and IT services sector. The population of Pune has been proportionately increasing, from 2,618,000 in 2001 to 3,196,000 in 2011 as per the Census, and is estimated to reach 5,745,000 by 2027 and 8,382,000 by 2047. The requirement for sewerage services has also increased proportionately.
The sewage volume being treated currently is about 476 million liters per day (MLD), while the sewage volume generated is about 728 MLD. JICA’s assistance will entail construction of a sewer network of over 113 km, 4 sewage pumping stations and 11 sewage treatment plants of 396 MLD combined capacity. The sewage facilities will be fitted with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system which enables remote control and monitoring of equipment. There will also be 24 community toilet facilities constructed under the assistance.
The development of the sewerage system will be carried out by Pune Municipal Corporation. JICA will also assist in designing of the sewerage network, management of its construction and application of GIS (Geographic Information System) and MIS (Management Information System) for capacity building of the Pune Municipal Corporation for subsequent operation and maintenance.
JICA is currently partnering 19 projects to enhance sewerage and water facilities in various areas, such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Agra, Amritsar, Varanasi, Jaipur, Nagaur district (Rajasthan) and Goa among others, with cumulative ODA loan assistance of over JPY 490,695 million.
